I hope you have people around you to pick up the slack. My first daughter was four weeks early and ate and slept on an accelerated cycle. When she slept, I slept. I have no idea what went on outside the small circle where my arms wrapped around her. You are not self-indulgent; you need this time. You are starting a long march and you have to marshal your strength.
Thank you so much for your kind and reassuring comment. My son has also been eating on a somewhat accelerated cycle; he was jaundiced, and it was important for him to eat a lot in a very short period of time.
My husband was able to take off for four weeks at the beginning, which was wonderful, but that comes to an end shortly. I have a lot of friends willing to jump in, though.
Again, many thanks. It's very comforting to know I'm not alone!
Jaundice appears to be common, my daughter spent a week under the blue lights and my parents drove me to the hospital twice a day so I could try to breast feed. This was in 1981 when there was no Family Medical Leave Act. Thank goodness I had parents. I had saved all my vacation at work and got two weeks off officially so I had a total of five weeks before going back to work. My oldest daughter is a beautiful adult and we are very close. She is strong and healthy. Smiles and hugs
